Luxury trips that I dream about when I’m working a 9-5, and you should too
There are a lot of super luxury trips that I’ve been dreaming of for quite a while, and though I intend to slowly cross them off my list eventually, I haven’t yet because of the time, prohibitive cost, or logistics of it. That doesn’t stop me from occasionally checking flights, costs, details for these trips as I work my 9-5 job, though. Here is my list:
- Buenos Aires, Argentina
- A city rich in culture that draws inspiration from Italy, Spain, and Germany, and the mix of cultures creates some of the most beautiful architecture, food, and people
- The 29th of every month is gnocchi day!
- Tim Ferriss writes extensively about living in Buenos Aires and recommends trying a 3 month “mini-retirement” there.
- In fact, quite a few extremely interesting people have a connection with Buenos Aires. Tim Ferriss learned Tango there, Brian Armstrong started businesses there before he started Coinbase, and Jim Simons attempted to scooter from Boston to Buenos Aires before founding Renaissance Technologies. It’s interesting the attraction this city has to interesting people.
- Check out Iguazú Falls, UNESCO heritage site Colonia del Sacramento or Montevideo in Uruguay, or take a quick flight to Mendoza for some wine country experience
- Trans-Siberian Railroad
- A more unique trip when thinking about luxury trips
- The longest railway in the world

- A train that connects Dalian and Beijing, China with Vladivostok and Moscow, Russia
- It takes about 6 nights for just train travel but there are plenty of stops along the way
- One could potentially go from London to Singapore with connecting railway
- More info: https://www.seat61.com/trans-siberian-railway.htm#route-map
- Yekaterinburg is a good stop, along with Moscow, Lake Baikal, Mongolia’s capital city Ulaanbaatar, Harbin in the winter for the world’s largest ice festival. Learn more here: https://www.planetware.com/russia/how-to-do-a-trans-siberian-railway-journey-routes-stops-r-1-6.htm.
- Kiev, Ukraine
- Such a cheap city with $2 beers, $6 hostel rooms, $11 for a nice sit down dinner
- Tour the Chernobyl nuclear plant with a dosimeter to avoid radiation
- Drive a tank around for fun and run over a scrap car
- Shoot an AK-47 and a sniper at a gun range
- Antarctica
- Fly to Tierra del Fuego area of Argentina and take the Train at the End of the World
- Cruise from Ushuaia, Argentina for 8 days, touching on land and seeing penguins
- If I ever win the lottery I am 100% planning on doing a luxury trips trek to the south pole
- Palau
- An island in the South Pacific
- Famous for it’s Jellyfish Lake
- This lake has special jellyfish that evolved separate from the rest of the jellyfish in the world so they don’t have stingers and you can swim with them!
- Scuba diving is not allowed but you can swim for hours as the jellyfish swim from one side to another

Jellyfish Lake
- Iran
- One of Anthony Bourdain’s favorite countries
- He has said, “I was really knocked sideways by how well we were treated in Iran and how delicious the food was and how hospitable ordinary people were to us.”
- The Facebook group See you in Iran really made me inspired to visit this country one day

Yazd, Iran

- Hokkaido, Japan
- The northernmost main island of Japan makes this a great spot to go skiing!
- Plenty of Onsens, which are natural Japanese geothermal hot springs fueled by volcanic activity that pair well with skiing
- January is named “JaPOWuary” because of the amount of powder snow the island receives in January, which makes it perfect for a powder snow ski vacation that you can actually plan for weeks in advance
